A new ticket resale law took effect in Ontario on April 25, 2026, introducing some changes for anyone looking to resell or buy tickets to live events in the province.
Passed as Bill 97 of 2026, the law places a limit on the resale price of event tickets, capping resale at the original total price paid, including all taxes and mandatory fees.
This price cap applies to tickets resold for an event that takes place in Ontario, whether for concerts, sports games, theater performances, or other entertainment events. Because marketplaces like StubHub connect resellers and buyers, we do not have visibility into the original purchase price of a ticket, so we will require buyers to confirm that their listings comply with this legal threshold. There will be a confirmation requirement on our website and app before a ticket can be listed for sale.
As always, StubHub remains committed to transparency, flexibility, and ensuring fans can access live events safely and reliably with every order backed by our FanProtect Guarantee.
What This Means for Resellers
Resellers in Ontario should:
- Confirm the original ticket price, including all taxes and fees;
- Factor the original ticket price cap into any listings for events in Ontario; and
- Carefully review all provincial rules before posting a ticket for sale.
