John Mayer at Sphere: Everything You Need to Know

John Mayer just announced his 2027 Sphere residency, and it’s already one of the most talked-about live music events of next spring. Six dates became 18 within days of the announcement, and the format he’s bringing to Las Vegas is unlike anything he’s done before.

Here’s what to know before you buy.

The Concept: Three Shows in One Night

Every performance of Mayer’s Sphere residency packs three distinct formats into a single evening. Rather than spreading his solo, band, and trio styles across separate dates the way he’s toured them in different chapters of his career, each night moves through all three.

The solo segment features Mayer primarily on acoustic guitar, with electric guitar and piano woven in. The John Mayer Trio reunites him with bassist Pino Palladino (who stepped in for John Entwistle in The Who) and drummer Steve Jordan, who replaced Charlie Watts in The Rolling Stones. The same rhythm section that defined the Trio two decades ago, back together at one of the most technologically ambitious venues ever built. The full-band lineup hasn’t been announced yet.

For Mayer fans who have followed him across his career’s different phases — the pop-rock songwriter, the blues guitarist, the Grateful Dead collaborator — this is the first time all of it appears on one stage in one night.

The Dates

What started as six April shows has expanded to 18 dates running from April through June 2027:

April: 8, 10, 11, 15, 17, 18, 28, 30
May: 1, 5, 7, 8, 12, 14, 15
June: 2, 4, 5

All shows take place at Sphere in Las Vegas.

This is Mayer’s solo Sphere debut. He performed at the venue previously with Dead & Company during their 2024 and 2025 residency, which drew 477,000 attendees across 48 shows. He knows the venue, which matters for a production this ambitious.

Tickets and How to Buy

$1 from every ticket benefits Mayer’s Back to You Fund. Tickets for all shows are also being auctioned at charityauctionstoday.com, with all proceeds going to the Heart and Armor Foundation, a veterans’ health organization Mayer founded in 2012.

VIP packages are available and include a date-specific signed lithograph. Hotel packages through include a two-night stay at the Venetian, with VIP and travel packages the first to go on sale.

For fans who missed the presale: with 18 dates across three months, this residency has significantly more inventory than a single-city headlining show. That said, Mayer’s fan base is devoted and the Sphere format is a genuine draw beyond his core audience. Watch StubHub as the on-sale settles, since prices on a multi-night residency of this length tend to find a more sustainable level as the spring approaches.

Why Sphere

Sphere’s 160,000-square-foot LED interior screen and spatial audio system make it a fundamentally different live music experience than a conventional arena or amphitheater. For a show built around three distinct musical formats (acoustic, electric, and blues trio) the visual and audio flexibility the venue offers is significant. Each segment of the show can look and sound like its own environment rather than a costume change on a static stage.

Mayer joins a residency roster at Sphere that includes U2, Eagles, Phish, Dead & Company, No Doubt, Kenny Chesney, and Metallica, whose current Life Burns Faster residency runs through March 13, 2027, handing the stage directly to Mayer’s April opener.

The venue’s approach to seat view also differs from a conventional arena. The immersive LED screen wraps around the entire building, which means the traditional calculus that “closer is better” applies differently here. Sound is mapped spatially across the room. For Sphere shows, audio position and screen angle matter more than stage proximity when evaluating seats. Most sections deliver a genuinely strong experience, which the multi-night format reinforces: fans who have seen multiple Sphere residencies frequently note that different sections offer noticeably different perspectives worth experiencing more than once.

What to Know Before You Buy

Compare all-in pricing. Fees can shift the comparison between listings significantly. StubHub’s all-in pricing shows the real total upfront so you’re looking at actual costs from the first search, not face values that change at checkout.

The multi-night structure creates options. With 18 shows across three months, there’s more resale opportunity than a single night allows. Weekend dates (Saturdays, Sundays) typically carry stronger demand and pricing than Thursday shows. If your priority is the experience over a specific date, Thursday or non-holiday weeknights on the spring calendar frequently offer more accessible pricing.

Buy early for the best seats. A six-night run expanded to 18 suggests demand was strong from the start. The additional dates were announced within days of the original announcement because the audience is there. For fans who want specific sections, moving early protects you from resale premiums as April approaches.

Plan the Las Vegas trip around the show. The Sphere sits on the Strip, and building a weekend around an April or May Mayer date makes logistical sense. Spring in Las Vegas is mild, which makes this a genuinely good travel window.

Quick Answers

Has John Mayer played Sphere before?
Yes, with Dead & Company during their 2024 and 2025 residency, which drew nearly half a million attendees across 48 shows. This is his first solo Sphere residency.

What are the ticket prices?
Tickets start at $129. VIP packages with a date-specific signed lithograph are available at higher price points, as are hotel packages through Vibee.

Will more dates be added?
The residency already expanded from six to 18 dates within days of the announcement. It’s possible additional dates follow if demand continues to build — watch Mayer’s official channels through fall.

Which nights are likely to be most in demand?
Weekend shows — Saturdays and Sundays — typically carry the strongest demand on multi-night residencies. The April 8 opener is also worth noting as a marquee first-night event.

Does seat location matter as much at Sphere?
Less so than at a conventional venue. The LED screen wraps the entire building and audio is spatially mapped, which means most sections deliver a strong experience. Focus on screen angle and price over pure proximity to the stage.
